Annotea was developed as a Web-based shared annotation system based on a general-purpose open RDF infrastructure where annotations are modeled as a class of metadata. Annotations, identified by a URI, are viewed as statements or remarks made by an author about a Web document. In the Annotea model (see figure 1), the context defines where exactly inside the document the annotation is attached and the body is a link to the content of the annotation identified by a URI and conceived to contain textual or graphical content. Annotations are external to the documents and can be stored in one or more annotation servers that are responsible for controlling access - this allows us to implement local/private and remote/shared annotations.

CHICAGO -- For a stranger, the main library at the University of Illinois at Chicago can be hard to find. The directions I got from a pair of clerks at the credit union in the student center have proven unreliable. I now find myself adrift among ash trees and drab geometric buildings.Finally, I call for help. Firouzeh Logan, a reference librarian here, soon appears and guides me where I need to go. Several unmarked pathways and an escalator ride later, I am in a private room on the second floor of the library, surrounded by librarians eager to answer my questions.

Below you will find links to iPad applications that target the various levels of Bloom's Revised Taxonomy. I only included free apps that were "content-neutral" to make them usable across the curriculum. I also tried to include apps for the iPad only, but a few iPhone apps may have snuck in!
Each app image is clickable, and you will be taken to the iTunes Store to learn more about each one.

Litouwers persen 50 GB op stukje glas | Webwereld
Litouwse onderzoekers hebben een methode ontwikkeld om 50 GB aan informatie op te slaan in een stukje glas niet groter dan een Nokia-display. Dat is evenveel als op een blu-ray-schijfje. Door voxels aan te brengen op de nano-structuur van het plaatje is het volgens de onderzoekers mogelijk om een uiterst robuust opslagmedium te produceren. De paper van de vier onderzoekers(pdf) is gepubliceerd in Applied Physics Letters. Het paper is geschreven aan de Universiteit van Southampton, en een bedrijf uit Litouwen heeft er flink aan meebetaald.

Een nieuw online reken oefenprogramma waarin kinderen het rekenen spelenderwijs kunnen oefenen en automatiseren op hun eigen niveau. De oefeningen worden automatisch geanalyseerd en teruggekoppeld aan de docent. In de Rekentuin kunnen kinderen een tuintje met plantjes onderhouden door regelmatig rekenspelletjes te spelen. Ieder plantje in de tuin staat voor een Rekendomein en een bijbehorend rekenspelletje. Het plantje groeit afhankelijk van het succes. Wanneer de spelletjes goed geoefend worden verschijnen er vanzelf weer nieuwe plantjes van nieuwe rekendomeinen.

Belangrijke aanleiding vormt de toenemende ruimte die scholen hebben, om een deel van hun onderwijsprogramma naar eigen inzicht in te vullen. Scholen grijpen die kansen aan om hun onderwijs een meer eigen invulling te geven. Dit heeft de afgelopen jaren geresulteerd in verschillende onderwijsontwikkelingen. Met de komst van deze ontwikkelingen wordt ook een beroep gedaan op het ontwerpend vermogen van de docent.

MARC Countries list identifies current national entities, states of the United States, provinces and territories of Canada and Australia, divisions of the United Kingdom, and internationally recognized dependencies. The list\'s codes are two- or three-character lowercase alphabetic strings that serve as identifiers. The MARC country codes are not the same as the ISO 3166 country codes, although the lists are entity-compatible so that a simple translation could relate codes for the same entity. The records for the codes contain references to the equivalent ISO 3166 codes.

Today's web is built predominantly for human consumption. Even as machine-readable data begins to appear on the web, it is typically distributed in a separate file, with a separate format, and very limited correspondence between the human and machine versions. As a result, web browsers can provide only minimal assistance to humans in parsing and processing web data: browsers only see presentation information. We introduce RDFa, which provides a set of XHTML attributes to augment visual data with machine-readable hints. We show how to express simple and more complex datasets using RDFa, and in particular how to turn the existing human-visible text and links into machine-readable data without repeating content.

The Open Graph protocol enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. For instance, this is used on Facebook to enable any web page to have the same functionality as a Facebook Page.
While many different technologies and schemas exist and could be combined together, there isn't a single technology which provides enough information to richly represent any web page within the social graph. The Open Graph protocol builds on these existing technologies and gives developers one thing to implement. Developer simplicity is a key goal of the Open Graph protocol which has informed many of the technical design decisions. -
RDF is a directed, labeled graph data format for representing information in the Web. RDF is often used to represent, among other things, personal information, social networks, metadata about digital artifacts, as well as to provide a means of integration over disparate sources of information. This specification defines the syntax and semantics of the SPARQL query language for RDF.

Open Graph protocol - Facebook Developers
The Open Graph Protocol enables you to integrate your Web pages into the social graph. It is currently designed for Web pages representing profiles of real-world things — things like movies, sports teams, celebrities, and restaurants. Including Open Graph tags on your Web page, makes your page equivalent to a Facebook Page. This means when a user clicks a Like button on your page, a connection is made between your page and the user. Your page will appear in the "Likes and Interests" section of the user's profile, and you have the ability to publish updates to the user. Your page will show up in the same places that Facebook pages show up around the site (e.g. search), and you can target ads to people who like your content. The structured data you provide via the Open Graph Protocol defines how your page will be represented on Facebook.

The SIOC initiative (Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities) aims to enable the integration of online community information. SIOC provides a Semantic Web ontology for representing rich data from the Social Web in RDF. It has recently achieved significant adoption through its usage in a variety of commercial and open-source software applications, and is commonly used in conjunction with the FOAF vocabulary for expressing personal profile and social networking information. By becoming a standard way for expressing user-generated content from such sites, SIOC enables new kinds of usage scenarios for online community site data, and allows innovative semantic applications to be built on top of the existing Social Web. The SIOC ontology was recently published as a W3C Member Submission, which was submitted by 16 organisations.

Good question, I've been working, literally non-stop to finish this but its quite complex. You'll see what I mean. Anyways, give me a couple days. You can, in fact, try it out while its in its development phase. It will generate the icons, it just doesn't package them up for you nicely. "Metadata is "data about data" -- information like keywords, page-length, title, word-count, abstract, location, SKU, ISBN, and so on. Explicit, human-generated metadata has enjoyed recent trendiness, especially in the world of XML. A typical scenario goes like this: a number of suppliers get together and agree on a metadata standard -- a Document Type Definition or scheme -- for a given subject area, say washing machines. They agree to a common vocabulary for describing washing machines: size, capacity, energy consumption, water consumption, price. They create machine-readable databases of their inventory, which are available in whole or part to search agents and other databases, so that a consumer can enter the parameters of the washing machine he's seeking and query multiple sites simultaneously for an exhaustive list of the available washing machines that meet his criteria."

"De toetsen van het Cito zijn ten onrechte maatgevend geworden voor het onderwijs. De overheid dient de inhoud van het onderwijs vast te stellen. Niet het Cito. Op 29 maart 2011 werd in Arnhem het nieuwe Cito-gebouw door koningin Beatrix geopend. Met het nieuwe kantoorpand wil het Cito het belang onderstrepen dat de organisatie hecht aan het leveren van een zichtbare bijdrage aan de economie van de stad Arnhem. Het is de vraag of ook het Nederlandse onderwijs profiteert van de economische activiteiten van het Cito. In dit hoofdstuk wordt een inleiding gegeven op het onderzoek naar zelfsturing in leerpraktijken, dat werd uitgevoerd van het studiejaar 1999-2000 tot en met het studiejaar 2001-2002. Het onderzoek vond plaats in de context van een ingrijpende curriculuminnovatie binnen de Educatieve Faculteit Amsterdam (EFA). EFA beoogde haar curriculum te veranderen in de richting van een dynamisch curriculum. De aanleiding voor de curriculumvernieuwing binnen EFA is onderwerp van 1.1. Paragraaf 1.2 bevat een toelichting op EFA, het dynamisch curriculum en het flankerend onderzoek dat werd uitgevoerd ter ondersteuning van de vernieuwing. Een beknopt verslag van de verkennende voorstudie die de aanleiding vormde voor het onderzoek naar zelfsturing in leerpraktijken wordt in 1.3 gegeven. Dit was de aanleiding voor het ontstaan van een praktische, gemeenschappelijke aanpak voor het ontwikkelen van algemene vaardigheden bij leerlingen in vmbo-tl en breder in het voortgezet onderwijs. Onder de titel Vademecum Algemene Vaardigheden heeft SLO praktisch werkmateriaal voor docenten en leerlingen uitgewerkt rond de vaardigheden Presenteren, Onderzoeken en Interviewen. Doelgroep: docententeams in vmbo-gl/tl en breder in vo.

Daarnaast biedt de nota inzicht in initiatieven op het gebied van 21st century skills in verschillende landen en internationale organisaties. Er is een literatuurstudie uitgevoerd naar beschikbare modellen voor 21st century skills, te weten het Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), EnGauge, Assessment and Teaching of 21st century skills (ATCS), National Educational Technology Standards (NETS/ISTE), en National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP). De literatuurstudie is aangevuld met informatie over onderzoek en aanbevelingen van de Europese Unie, de OESO en UNESCOover de noodzaak en de implementatie van 21st century skills.

Wijzigingen in de examinering in het vo en mbo vanwege de referentieniveaus en vanwege de beroepsgerichte kwalificatiestructuur in het mbo
Deze AMvB wijzigt het Eindexamenbesluit VO, het Staatsexamenbesluit VO en het Examen- en kwalificatiebesluit beroepsopleidingen WEB in verband met examinering referentieniveaus Nederlandse taal en rekenen in het vo en mbo 2 en 3 en in verband met de invoering van de beroepsgerichte kwalificatiestructuur in het mbo.
